Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Loom has completely transformed the way I communicate with my team and clients. Instead of scheduling back-to-back meetings, I can now record concise, engaging video messages that my colleagues can watch on their own time. The ability to share my screen while adding narration and visual cues has been a game changer for clarity and productivity. I particularly ...Read more

Loom pros and cons

  • Loom is widely appreciated for its user-friendly interface that allows professionals to quickly record and share videos without technical barriers. Its Chrome extension, desktop, and mobile apps make screen and camera recording accessible from any device.

  • By enabling asynchronous video messaging, Loom helps organizations reduce the need for lengthy meetings, streamlining communication and boosting productivity across remote and hybrid teams.

  • Users benefit from Loom’s intuitive editor, which allows trimming, stitching, and adding visual elements like arrows, text, and overlays, resulting in more polished and engaging content.

  • The platform enhances engagement with built-in features such as emojis, comments, transcripts, and closed captions in over 50 languages, making global collaboration easier.

  • Since Loom is designed primarily for asynchronous communication, it lacks robust real-time collaboration features compared to platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

  • Free accounts often face restrictions on video length, storage, and advanced features, which may require teams to upgrade for more comprehensive use.

"Perfect for distributed world"

What do you like best about Loom? I love how easy the plugin and desktop application work to create a sharable link. As someone who works across major time differences, a loom can often be a lifesaver to get a point across and keep the number of meetings down. The recently added editing capabilities mean less time spent recording because I can just cut out times when I mess up. What do you dislike about Loom? There is something about the dashboard experience with my personal libraries and ...

"When you just get tired of going back and forth"

What do you like best about Loom? When you know a problem or question is going to require some back and forth, Loom helps nip it in the bud by helping talk through complex topics that Slack might not be the best tool for. What do you dislike about Loom? This is partially a me problem - but I use it so frequently that I'm sure my library is a mess. I don't go far outside from recording a video and immediately sending it to the recipient. What problems is Loom solving and how is that ...

"Loom saves you time!"

What do you like best about Loom? I like how Loom is so easy to maneuver. Anyone can use it. What do you dislike about Loom? I wish I could default certain settings so that I don't have to remove my picture every time, for example. What problems is Loom solving and how is that benefiting you? Loom solves the problem of having to type an explanation or jump on the phone with someone just to explain something to them. Nowadays you'd rather just record something and send it off.

"Extremely easy to use!"

What do you like best about Loom? Loom is so easy to use! It's really helpful to be able to visually record tutorials and show my team how to use different parts of the programs we use on a daily basis. What do you dislike about Loom? I wish that when you select the window that you're wanting to record in, you could scroll or click on different parts of it to set it up before you actually click to start recording. What problems is Loom solving and how is that benefiting you? It's really ...

"A service I didn't realize I needed."

What do you like best about Loom? Makes giving visuals so much better! I didn't know how badly I needed this service! What do you dislike about Loom? I haven't figured out how to turn off the camera but still be heard. It's probably possible, I just didn't see how. What problems is Loom solving and how is that benefiting you? I am new to my company and learning. Being remote makes it so more difficult to explain what's on my computer sometimes. Not anymore!

"An amazing resource!"

What do you like best about Loom? I LOVE Loom -- so many things can be addressed with it regardless of your roll. My team and I use it for a customer facing role and it is truly helpful. It cuts down what would be a 15 minute chat, to a 5 minute chat with this tool. What do you dislike about Loom? Sometimes you can't move the icon at the left side corner (when it doesn't have the camera on bubble) and that can get frustrating especially when needing to navigate in that specific region What ...

"I needed a tool like this a long time ago!"

What do you like best about Loom? As a Product Designer working in open source, Loom makes it easy to present my designs to the engineering team without confusion. The auto-generated transcript is very useful for my team as we have members from all different parts of the world where the first language varies. I also appreciate the feature that enables me to pause the recording in the middle so I don't have to re-start the recording when my dog decides to go crazy in the background. What do ...
