Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Loom has completely transformed the way I communicate with my team and clients. Instead of scheduling back-to-back meetings, I can now record concise, engaging video messages that my colleagues can watch on their own time. The ability to share my screen while adding narration and visual cues has been a game changer for clarity and productivity. I particularly ...Read more

Loom pros and cons

  • Loom is widely appreciated for its user-friendly interface that allows professionals to quickly record and share videos without technical barriers. Its Chrome extension, desktop, and mobile apps make screen and camera recording accessible from any device.

  • By enabling asynchronous video messaging, Loom helps organizations reduce the need for lengthy meetings, streamlining communication and boosting productivity across remote and hybrid teams.

  • Users benefit from Loom’s intuitive editor, which allows trimming, stitching, and adding visual elements like arrows, text, and overlays, resulting in more polished and engaging content.

  • The platform enhances engagement with built-in features such as emojis, comments, transcripts, and closed captions in over 50 languages, making global collaboration easier.

  • Since Loom is designed primarily for asynchronous communication, it lacks robust real-time collaboration features compared to platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

  • Free accounts often face restrictions on video length, storage, and advanced features, which may require teams to upgrade for more comprehensive use.

"Loom is great for asynchronous work"

What do you like best about Loom? Loom is really helpful for asynchronous work. It can be hard to find time to meet that works for everyone. So I will create a Loom video to share out research recommendations, ask for feedback on a research plan, or create "how tos" for teammates. It'll let me meet my deadline, and give me more time to find synchronous time to share again, focus the meeting, or do a Q&A related to the content in the video. I also enjoy the UX content writing within Loom -- ...

"Very useful tool for quickly recording videos for various purposes"

What do you like best about Loom? The ability to record any part of the screen. Just a few clicks to start recording and the ability of user feedback / commenting on the videos. Showing a talking head on some training videos can make them look more authentic. What do you dislike about Loom? I do end up recording many unnecessary videos several times. I have to often return to the web interface to go delete these. I also haven't figured out how to stick my default recording settings. What ...

"Clear, fast, and asynchronous communication!"

What do you like best about Loom? I love how fast Loom videos update. I think the UI is sleek and very easy to follow. I love that I can set a call-to-action button linked ot my calendar for my clients to engage with. I think that Loom is making great strides in the visual communication space. I save so much time sending a quick video instead of writing out a long email. There have been so many times when clients ask for a lot of resources or ask questions and a quick video takes out any ...

"Great tool! Needs practice before recording though!"

What do you like best about Loom? Loom is user friendly - on the surface it's pretty self explantory. I like the fact I can record parts of a selected screen + use my camera and record at the same time What do you dislike about Loom? There are A LOT of troubleshooting with Loom. When recording via the extension using tab audio, it will pick up an echo from the internal speakers which is such a bummer and should be flagged when clicking this toggle on. There are also times that you are ...

"love it for my line of work"

What do you like best about Loom? I work in support at my company and being able to share my screen to walk through a customer issue is invaluable What do you dislike about Loom? Maybe the ability to organize and filter my saved videos more succinctly. What problems is Loom solving and how is that benefiting you? I work with a very technical product; so, explanations over other mediums aren't always efficient (like email).
