Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Loom has completely transformed the way I communicate with my team and clients. Instead of scheduling back-to-back meetings, I can now record concise, engaging video messages that my colleagues can watch on their own time. The ability to share my screen while adding narration and visual cues has been a game changer for clarity and productivity. I particularly ...Read more

Loom pros and cons

  • Loom is widely appreciated for its user-friendly interface that allows professionals to quickly record and share videos without technical barriers. Its Chrome extension, desktop, and mobile apps make screen and camera recording accessible from any device.

  • By enabling asynchronous video messaging, Loom helps organizations reduce the need for lengthy meetings, streamlining communication and boosting productivity across remote and hybrid teams.

  • Users benefit from Loom’s intuitive editor, which allows trimming, stitching, and adding visual elements like arrows, text, and overlays, resulting in more polished and engaging content.

  • The platform enhances engagement with built-in features such as emojis, comments, transcripts, and closed captions in over 50 languages, making global collaboration easier.

  • Since Loom is designed primarily for asynchronous communication, it lacks robust real-time collaboration features compared to platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

  • Free accounts often face restrictions on video length, storage, and advanced features, which may require teams to upgrade for more comprehensive use.

"Loom has been great to use to share designs across teams/stakeholders."

What do you like best about Loom? The easily recorded videos. I can trigger a video recording outside of the app (in the Mac toolbar). So anything I feel like recording I can; this is extremely relevant for me since, as a product designer, I am expected to create designs and them communicate them across teams. The ability to watch videos (especially within Slack) allows me to keep track of what my teammates are working on; and the ability to create quick reactions allows me to interact with ...

"Meh"

What do you like best about Loom? It produces recorded video and audio with relatively little effort. What do you dislike about Loom? The ugly growth hack they deploy that attempts to get everyone with your email domain to force paid adoption. Not so much that they do it, rather the level of announce as a result of their tactics. What problems is Loom solving and how is that benefiting you? Nothing 100 others aren't equally pursuing.

"BEST TOOL OF THE DECADE!"

What do you like best about Loom? Ease of use and ramping to the software, as well as how quickly I can collaborate and get feedback on my programs. What do you dislike about Loom? Knowing how to best store the videos in a "shared" location and having the ability to default my videos to a specific location of my choosing. What problems is Loom solving and how is that benefiting you? Collaboration and feedback. Specifically it's not the easiest to communicate context over written word - very ...

"Have meetings without having a meeting"

What do you like best about Loom? I love how simple Loom is to use and share with internal and external stakeholders. You can either share the link via email or send them an invite, and they can leave you comments throughout the video. What do you dislike about Loom? I have encountered that video processing is very slow when you upload external media. I had some videos that I wanted to upload that I had previously recorded on a different platform. What problems is Loom solving and how is ...

"An Affordable and Fantastic Product"

What do you like best about Loom? The most helpful feature of the Loom product is the ability to record your face and the screen at the same time. I am able to so quickly take a video explaining a function of our product to my colleagues or an external facing demo! What do you dislike about Loom? This product is incredibly simple - which can be a good thing but also a not-so-great one. I wish there were a couple more features such as adding live music or voiceovers to the videos so I ...

"Loom changed how our international company works"

What do you like best about Loom? I love the time-stamped commenting and reactions. SO helpful. I'm also a huge fan of their new search, which searches against the actual contents of the video, not just the title. Pretty incredible! What do you dislike about Loom? The one thing I wish it had (and I think it's on the roadmap?) is the ability for multiple people to cocreate a Loom What problems is Loom solving and how is that benefiting you? I want to be mindful to not exaggerate, but Loom ...
