As good as it gets

What do you like best? The autocomplete and code assistance features are amazing when writing Java code. The IDE stays out of the way, but gently offers suggestions for improvements and just "does the right thing" any time I hit the keyboard shortcut to have it write code for me. These features are so good, they serve as a great way to learn new language features too. When moving from Java 7 to Java 8, there are better ways to write code and the IDE will detect structures that can be ...

It's a matter of taste! It depends on what you need.

What do you like best? The thing that I like about IntelliJ is how many features it has to find issues with your code, especially the compare one when you are doing an specific change and it turns out wrong! with IntelliJ you can easyly find whats not working, even if is a typo!, also the grunt integration is a plus. What do you dislike? I don't like how heavy it is! It's the main reason of why I don't use it in my daily basis, just when I need to do something very specific with my code. ...

Best Java/Scala IDE so far!

What do you like best? IntelliJ IDEA is extremely fast and lean: it makes it very easy to handle big scale Java and Scala projects without too much effort. The community edition itself is a full-featured IDE that doesn't have too much to envy compared to the enterprise one. The plug-in ecosystem makes it very easy to extend it and tailor it to the developer's taste. The feature that I love the most? The blazing fast syntax highlighting, syntax completion and the ability to import SBT Scala ...
