Not a good substitute for Photoshop

What do you like best? It was free. Photoshop is expensive so I thought this would be a good substitution. It isn't. What do you dislike? This program is very difficult to use. It doesn't have the same capabilities as Photoshop, contrary to what the description says. I don't even like the way the program looks. Recommendations to others considering the product If you can't afford Photoshop or are just wanting a program to do VERY basic photo editing (ie. cropping, color balance, ...

great for a free product

What do you like best? it is both fairly powerful and completely free! What do you dislike? It is a bit of a mess and is lacking in a lot of areas Recommendations to others considering the product Try it, it's powerful and free, You can learn a lot just from playing around in gimp. What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? I used Gimp to do texture work for my work in Blender3D

Solid Open Source Alternative for image editing

What do you like best? First and foremost the fact that GIMP is free makes having it installed on any computer a must. More-so, any software that abides by the Open Source community mantra is a big plus in my book. Most industry standard tools are implemented even if sometimes at the most basic level. The software loads fast and runs easily on low-end computers. What do you dislike? Layer handling isn't as intuitive as its commercial counterparts. It's no fault of the software directly, ...

Open and free software

What do you like best? As an image editing software is very correct but its strong point is its character of open and free software. I still remember when I studied media and the proposal of the university was using free software. Great tool!!! What do you dislike? I have written before its most important feature without mentioning the application itself but it could be that its weakest point is concerning the own interface. Honestly, I find the interface poor, almost unintuitive. What ...

Another interesting Open Source Alternative

What do you like best? GIMP is the most complete Open Source Alternative to Adobe Photoshop and as such, it's a very interesting software even if it stumbles along the way due to some missing features. What I like the most from this program are the photo editing capabilities. All that you might expect from a digital retouching software is there. Levels, layers, cloning stamp, curves, raw support, you name it. Also, something that I find really interesting is the fact that, even if the ...

Don't let the name fool you!

What do you like best? FREE FREE FREE FREE! What more could you ask for? While Photoshop has become the standard in image editing, there is definitely something to be said for a program that is open source. Free. Used by many. Overlooked by the more. If you are looking for a FREE program that rivals Photoshop for your image editing a creation needs, you have found it. Granted, there are things that you will NOT find in Gimp that are in Adobe Photoshop. BUT in a pinch and if you are short ...

Gimp is a great alternative to Adobe Photoshop

What do you like best? Gimp is a really good image manipulation software. I mainly use it for editing photos and it does the job wonderfully! I especially like it's expandability by using plugins, which are all free and created by the open source community. What do you dislike? My main issue with it before was the incredibly awkward UI. It has been updated relatively recently to offer a single window mode which addressed my original complaint with it. Recommendations to others ...

The default alternative for Photoshop in Linux

What do you like best? GIMP is installed by default in most of the Linux distributions. It's the logical alternative for image retouching in open source platforms and it's very easy to adapt to it if you are a Photoshop user or without no training at all. The user interface is different from Photoshop but not very much. There are a lot of third party plugins for the common tasks. What do you dislike? The user interface is a bit outdated. The "single window" feature is an improvement ...
