Datadog APM pros and cons

  • With powerful tools for monitoring and troubleshooting, Datadog APM simplifies the process of diagnosing and fixing performance issues across applications, which enhances operational efficiency.

  • Datadog sends real-time alerts when something goes wrong, enabling users to address problems immediately and prevent further disruptions.

  • Datadog APM offers proactive monitoring of complex, distributed systems, providing teams with the insights they need to prevent potential issues before they impact operations.

  • The platform enables faster identification of application availability issues, allowing teams to resolve problems quickly and minimize downtime.

  • While the platform provides detailed insights, the sheer volume of data generated can be overwhelming for teams without the proper filtering and configuration, making it difficult to focus on critical issues.

  • Datadog's pricing structure can be expensive, especially for smaller businesses, as costs can scale quickly depending on the number of monitored hosts and the level of usage.

Excellent monitoring and operational metrics for cloud and containerized applications

What do you like best? Highly performant visualizations and metric math. Very cost effective for their metric service. What do you dislike? Logs service is expensive, although reasonably so. Somewhat frequent issues with metric ingest. Recommendations to others considering the product: It's easy to do a detailed evaluation for free or nearly so. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Operations monitoring and application performance.

Datadog has proven invaluable

What do you like best? The Datadog team keeps building new features that we need before we even know we need them! They are so quick to add features and fix bugs that we report. What do you dislike? Not really a dislike but their APM and logging still lag behind some of the more mature products out there. They are rapidly improving both though and they're very much usable. Recommendations to others considering the product: Definitely do a POC with Datadog. You'll be surprised at ...

A very powerful APM

What do you like best? Datadog is used by multiple teams in our company to constantly monitor the infrastructure and make sure that the systems are working smoothly. Datadog offers a simple and very easy to use interface which makes it easy for us to train the new team members on the tool. Datadog also offers a vast variety of integration with third party tool which makes it easy for us to build custom reports and alerts. What do you dislike? 1. The initial deployment of the tool ...

Sandeep Datadog Review

What do you like best? The monitoring, visualizations and aggregation with our aws integration worked out pretty well for us. What do you dislike? The license is quite expensive, could have been better for Azure integration and features. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? We used this for monitoring the traffic within our AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure. Integrating our stuff, the more services you integrate, the more benefit you ...

Monitor All The Things

What do you like best? Datadog's myriad integrations make it useful for monitoring just about any web stack you can imagine. What do you dislike? The permissions model for dashboards make it a free-for-all. You have two choices, admin or unprotected. If the dashboards are unprotected, anyone can edit them. In larger team environments where users have varying levels of skill and a different view of which metrics are important, this can create a mess. Recommendations to others ...

My Experience with Datadog Cloud Based Monitoring Tool

What do you like best? Instant online chat support rather than waiting days for a return call. I also like that it is a java free web based program and that navigating the monitors via notification links is easy. Integration with an internal slack support channel helps organize monitoring into one channel rather than being mixed with email. What do you dislike? For IP monitoring the IP has to be live to do the setup, would prefer if the setup could be done without the monitor being ...

Logging, metrics and alerting all in one package

What do you like best? The ability to aggregate metrics to pull out outliers across a large group of processes/instances. What do you dislike? It's difficult to drill down from metrics to logs especially when looking at aggregate groups. Recommendations to others considering the product: Lots of features, but this produces a more complex UI and steeper learning curve What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Monitoring of web services ...

Efficient performance monitoring tool

What do you like best? Easy to use, simple installation, great features which allow you to observe variety of metrics and extract critical observations about system performance. CPU monitoring is very useful. Creating graphs and metric customization is easy. What do you dislike? User interface is technical, not a naive user's playground. Learning the basics can be time-consuming at first. Recommendations to others considering the product: Datadog is highly efficient once the users ...
