What is !Coconut?
!Coconut is a UK-based self-employed accounting and tax software designed exclusively for sole traders, freelancers, landlords, and CIS subcontractors. The platform brings together expense tracking, invoicing, bank integration, and HMRC tax compliance into a single mobile-first app, making it possible for self-employed people to manage their finances without needing an accountant. !Coconut connects to 25+ UK banks — including Barclays, HSBC, NatWest, Starling, Monzo, Nationwide, Santander, and Wise — to automatically import and categorize income and expenses in real time. Users get a live view of their profitability and can capture receipts directly from their phone, attach them to transactions, and create unlimited professional invoices with payment tracking. On the tax side, !Coconut is HMRC-recognized software for Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax, allowing sole traders and landlords to submit quarterly updates and year-end returns directly to HMRC from within the app — a requirement that becomes mandatory from April 2026 onwards. The platform also supports direct Self Assessment filing (SA100–SA109 forms) and provides built-in tax saving suggestions and real-time tax estimates throughout the year. For freelancers and sole traders with multiple income streams, !Coconut supports separate tracking across business and personal accounts. Accountants and bookkeepers can collaborate directly within the platform. The app is FCA-authorized as an Account Information Service Provider and is registered with the ICO for GDPR compliance.
