CircleCI is highly regarded for its user-friendly interface, real-time project insights, and seamless integration with various build hosts, making it a standout choice for CI operations. CircleCI pros and cons

  • Provides a user-friendly interface with unique features like insights for workflows, job branches, and commit history.

  • Free tier includes substantial credits, easy to integrate into projects, and allows SSH to resolve issues directly in the build machine.

  • Offers easy interface for pipeline creation using YAML files, facilitating automation and progress tracking.

  • Excellent documentation and ease of integration with other technologies for users transitioning from DevOps/Sysadmin roles.

  • Audit features are not as robust as other enterprise-grade providers, and some users found the setup to be complex initially.

  • Issues related to Docker layer cache credits running out fast and slow servers have been reported.

Promising feature set, macOS build support, some confusing documentation.

What do you like best? Support for macOS builds is the 'killer feature'. Simple YAML configuration language. What do you dislike? The documentation is scattered among being relevant to 1.0, 2.0, or 2.1 versions of the configuration language. No direct support for local builds of 2.1 configs. No easy way to build containers in one step/command and then use it in a later step/command. Recommendations to others considering the product: Start with 2.1 configuration version. Use the ...

Effective Framework for Continuous Integration and Delivery

What do you like best? CircleCI has automated our post-commit testing, container image builds, and uploads to our image repository. The service is easy to administer and integrate with our tooling. During development, we get immediate feedback as to the health of the build, and whether a pull request is ready to merge into master. The service's interface makes it easy to view the build history across branches. What do you dislike? There's not much to dislike. The platform continues ...

Worthwhile 3rd Party CI/CD Tool

What do you like best? It has a nice dashboard where you can find all of the relevant projects you are currently working on and what their status is in their deployment and if it had passed or failed any tests. What do you dislike? The setup was a little cumbersome of getting the configuration correct, but that's part of the process until there's a GUI based system built in like Github Actions. Recommendations to others considering the product: I would say make the configuration ...

Circle CI is a complete CI tool and exceptionally well.

What do you like best? I particularly like the automated workflows and on top of it, integration with third party apps like slack. What do you dislike? I can't think of any as of now (40 characters minimum :P) Recommendations to others considering the product: I would simply say 'Go for it, give it a try and you won't look back for anything else for you CI/build processes'. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? We are able to solve ...

Very advanced features, unintuitive interface

What do you like best? Lots of really great integrations. Also love that the config is stored in a file in your repository. Makes it much easier to copy config from one project to another and make modifications easily without dealing with a needless interface or permissions. What do you dislike? The interface is confusing. Particularly when you run tests concurrently and are trying to get details on what failed. You have to view the artifacts from each run separately. And I still ...

A great way to automate your build process

What do you like best? We run a fairly complex flow that takes every new commit, runs the tests for it, builds the app then uploads it to App Store Connect. Since we're pushing several builds per day, it easily saves us at least 2 man-hours each day. It's very easy to set up, easy to customise to your own specific build pipeline and integrates well with other tools to send notifications when things go wrong. What do you dislike? Nothing major, really. The UI could be better, but to be ...
