Import can be very slow, rendering images for selection can also be a pain - there are other programmes that do this very quickly so you could just combine lightroom with something like photomechanic. Lightroom can not completely take over photoshop but there is still a lot you can do with editing in Lightroom. What problems is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom solving and how is that benefiting you? I can edit many photos in bulk with light room by saving my presets and using them on all of the photos.
