Editor's Summary · Dental Practice Management Software
Separate the layers before comparing anything. Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Curve Dental, Denticon, ABELDent, DentiMax and Oryx are practice management systems — you buy exactly one. Weave, Adit, RevenueWell, YAPI, Solutionreach, NexHealth and Dental Intelligence run on top of whichever one you choose. Overjet and Pearl are FDA-cleared AI that reads radiographs and sits alongside both.
On the core system, the real decision is cloud or server and single-site or group. Curve is cloud-only by design; Denticon is built for DSOs where one patient database and consolidated reporting across locations is the requirement. Open Dental deserves a serious look for cost — flat monthly pricing with an open database, which is meaningfully cheaper than the incumbents and gives you access to your own data.
Dentrix and Eaglesoft win on ubiquity rather than capability: staff already know them and every integration supports them.

How to choose Dental Practice Management Software
Choose the practice management system first and the add-ons second, because every communication, analytics and AI tool integrates with the major platforms but not equally well. Check data access explicitly: getting your own patient data out is straightforward with an open database and can be difficult otherwise, and it determines how hard switching will be later. If you plan to add locations, buy for that now — migrating a group off a single-practice system is far more painful than starting on a multi-site platform.
