Who gets the most from AI SOC Agents
- 1Security operations leads whose analysts cannot work the alert volume the detection stack produces each day
- 2Managed security providers investigating the same classes of alert across many customer tenants and needing per-tenant separation
- 3Detection engineers who want coverage gaps named against a framework rather than discovered during an incident
How to choose AI SOC Agents
Start by separating the agentic products from the managed services, because both are marketed with the same words. If a vendor says its own named analysts own the consequential calls, you are buying a service and should compare it against other services on response times and coverage, not on autonomy settings. TENEX and the managed wrappers around AirMDR and Cognna sit on that side of the line. Next, decide what the agent is allowed to touch. Read the autonomy wording closely: Dropzone and Prophet Security write up a case and hand it over, Qevlar and Simbian advance containment under analyst control, and the response-capable products will act inside limits you define. A team without the appetite to let software act should not pay for the half of a product it will never switch on. Then check where it runs. Crogl is customer managed rather than hosted, and runs on-premise, in your own cloud or fully air-gapped. Qevlar, Simbian and Conifers offer a hosted service or a deployment inside your own cloud. Dropzone and Prophet Security deploy single-tenant. If your data cannot leave your perimeter, that single question removes most of the field before you look at anything else. Finally, be realistic about the pricing conversation. Almost nothing here publishes a rate. Crogl publishes a free single-user tier and AirMDR advertises an always-free plan with a capped number of investigations, and those two are the only practical ways to measure accuracy on your own alerts before committing. Everywhere else, ask for a proof of value run against your real alert volume and judge it on the investigations it produced, not on the demo.
