We ran a real test: fed Gamma a real paragraph of Spotsaas platform copy and asked it to turn that into a deck. It took a couple of minutes — the generation sat as “pending” before finishing — and came back with a genuine card-based deck, an AI-generated background image it chose on its own, and a headline pulled straight from our input text. Real output, real cost (108 credits deducted from a 400-credit workspace balance), not a marketing description of what the tool is supposed to do.

TL;DR

Gamma turns a block of written text into a card-based deck automatically — you give it content, it picks a theme, generates supporting imagery, and condenses your text rather than dumping it verbatim onto slides. In our one real test it did exactly that, unprompted. What we haven’t verified: editing an existing deck (Gamma’s own tool can’t do this — you edit in their web app), long-document input, or export quality. Credits burn faster than a casual user might expect — this single short test used over a quarter of a workspace’s balance.

What Gamma claims to do

The pitch: turn raw written content into a polished, card-based presentation in seconds, with brand-matched templates, no-code editing, live-presentation delivery, and analytics on how a shared deck gets viewed.

What we actually saw

1. Text-to-deck generation

What we did: Submitted a real ~110-word paragraph about Spotsaas (catalog size, SpotScore, Buyer Intel) as the entire input, with no additional formatting or slide breaks.

What happened: Gamma didn’t just reflow the paragraph onto a slide — it condensed it, pulled out the “2 million buyers” stat as a supporting line, generated a headline, and built an AI-generated background image (a dark, abstract dashboard/data-visualization image) matched to the “software platform” subject matter, without being told what kind of image to use.

Verdict: Genuine text-to-deck transformation, not just a template with your words pasted in.

2. Turnaround time

What we did: Watched the generation status rather than assuming it finished instantly.

What happened: The request returned a “pending” status first; the deck wasn’t ready on the first check and needed a follow-up status check before it completed.

Verdict: Not instant — budget a couple of minutes, not seconds, for a real generation.

3. Credit cost

What we did: Checked the workspace’s credit balance before and after.

What happened: A single short-paragraph-to-deck generation used 108 credits out of a 400-credit balance — more than a quarter of the balance for one small test.

Verdict: If you’re evaluating Gamma on a free or low-credit tier, don’t expect to run many test generations before hitting a wall.

Pros

Genuinely condenses, doesn’t just template. Our test confirmed it pulls out key facts rather than dumping input text verbatim.

Picks relevant imagery automatically. The AI-generated image matched our content’s subject without any art-direction prompt from us.

Output looked presentation-ready on the first pass — a coherent theme was applied without us selecting one.

Cons

Not instant. Real generation took a couple of minutes with an intermediate “pending” state, not the “seconds” the marketing implies.

Credit cost adds up fast. One small test consumed over a quarter of a mid-size credit balance.

Can’t edit within the generation tool itself — refinement happens in Gamma’s separate web editor, which we didn’t test here.
